(1) Incident Type : SUSPICIOUS APPROACH  |  Vessel Type : UNCONFIRMED VESSEL TYPE
1700 UTC  |  09 January  |  Posn: 04-29.08 N 007-39.08 E  |  Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

A blue speed boat with 200hp engine and 7 armed men on board has been sighted looking to set an ambush at a location around Otunene. The suspects were later sighted making their way through the Emeroke Channel towards the Atlantic Ocean.

0815 UTC  |  09 January  |  Posn: 13-05.00 N 043-08.00 E  |  Bab el Mandeb, Yemen

4 high speed skiffs approached a vessel underway on its starboard side to a distance of 2 cables. Each skiff had 6 armed men on board. The vessels security team moved to their positions and the skiffs moved away. The vessel has been safe.

 

(3) Incident Type : BOARD  |  Vessel Type : BULK CARRIER
1735 UTC  |  08 January  |  Posn: 00-15.02 S 117-34.00 E  |  Samarinda, Indonesia

5 robbers managed to board an anchored bulk carrier. They took one of the duty crew hostage and tied him to the fore mast. Another member of the duty crew tried to contact the captured crewman but received no response. He approached to investigate and found the captured crewman. He immediately informed the OOW who raised the alarm. Upon hearing the alarm and seeing the crew alertness the robbers made their escape in a speed boat with ships stores.

1450 UTC  |  07 January  |  Posn: 13-44.00 N 121-02.02 E  |  Batangas Anchorage, Philippines

Robbers in 2 unlit boats had approached managed to board an anchored product tanker. The Duty AB (able seaman) on his routine rounds noticed the robbers and raised the alarm. Upon hearing the alarm the robbers escaped with ship's property. The crew mustered and a full search was conducted.
