SHIELD INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

(1) Incident Type : HIJACKED → RELEASED |  Vessel Type : TANKER
0800UTC | 06 September | Posn: 05-08.22N 104-16.37E | Kuala Dungun, Malaysia 

A Thailand-flagged tanker was hijacked whilst underway in the Andaman Sea. A total of 13 armed pirates approached the tanker in a small boat, 10 of the pirates managed to board the tanker. The crew activated the Ship Security Alarm System (SSAS) and alerted the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). Upon receiving SSAS alert, the MMEA dispatched 2 ships and a helicopter to intercept the tanker. When MMEA arrived on the scene, they could see the hijacked tanker alongside another tanker. A siphoning operation was being carried out by the pirates who are suspected to be Indonesian. The 10 pirates on board were apprehended by MMEA officers whilst the other 3 pirates managed to escape. The tanker was escorted to Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia along with the additional tanker for further investigation.

 

(2) Incident Type : BOARDED |  Vessel Type : CONTAINER VESSEL
0216UTC | 08 September |  Posn: 09-21.96N 013-44.48W | Conakry Anchorage, Guinea

Robbers were able to board a container vessel whilst anchored at Conakry Anchorage. 7 robbers armed with knives and crowbars, boarded the vessel and attempted to kidnap the Master. After 15 minutes onboard, the robbers made their escape with items of ship's property and personal effects of the crew.

 

(3) Incident Type : BOARDED |  Vessel Type : LPG TANKER
1910UTC | 07 September | Posn: 02-03.55N 104-59.28E | South-Southeast of Pulau Aur, Malaysia

Robbers were able to board an LPG tanker whilst underway approximately 35nm South-southeast of Pulau Aur. 4 robbers armed with knives and a gun boarded the tanker, stole items of ship's property and crew's personal effects before escaping.
