(1) Incident Type : SUSPICIOUS APPROACH | Vessel Type : BULK CARRIER A Bulk Carrier was approached by 6 pirates onboard 1 speedboat whilst underway approximately 60nm southwest of Bonny Island. The Master hailed a distress call via VHF which was heard by a nearby security vessel who responded. The Master carried out evasive manoeuvres resulting in pirates, who were carrying a ladder, aborting their attempt to board.
(2) Incident Type : SUSPICIOUS APPROACH | Vessel Type : FISHING VESSEL Marine Police were carrying out operations in the Sahabat Sea, Lahad Datu when they sighted a suspicious craft heading towards a group of fishing vessels at speed. The Patrol boat identified herself with blue flashing lights and approached, this resulted in the persons on board the suspicious vessel opening fire towards the patrol boat, the Police Officers returned fire, resulting in a total of 4 persons being fatally wounded. No Police Officers were injured during this incident.
(3) Incident Type : BOARD (ATTEMPTED ROBBERY) | Vessel Type : BULK CARRIER 7 robbers in a wooden boat with an outboard engine approached and attempted to board an anchored bulk carrier using a hook attached to a rope. The crew noticed the robbers and raised the alarm. Seeing the crew alertness, the robbers aborted the boarding attempt.
(4) Incident Type : BOARD (ATTEMPTED ROBBERY) | Vessel Type : BULK CARRIER Duty Crewman on board an anchored bulk carrier in Muara Berau anchorage heard a noise from the area of the hawse pipe and discovered persons attempting to remove the hawse pipe protection cover. The Duty Officer was informed, alarm raised and the ships whistle was sounded. Upon hearing the alarm, the robbers abandoned their attempt at boarding and made their escape. On completion of a search it was reported that nothing was stolen.
