A tanker was hijacked whilst in the Gulf of Guinea. The report states that a Spanish Warship spotted the tanker 65nm southwest of Brass, which was not displaying any AIS details, and began an approach to investigate the situation. This resulted in a group of pirates disembarking and escaping in a speedboat. The Spanish Navy then boarded the tanker and gathered information from the Captain who reported that 9 pirates, armed with one RPG and AK 47's, had hijacked the tanker four days ago. It will be continuing to investigate this incident and once confirmed information has been obtained this alert will be updated accordingly.
